There are currently two Dusty Banjos sessions in Galway, so you can choose which one suits you. Sheet music is available at all the sessions, though it's not necesssary to be able to read music. You can also record the tunes if you like. Generally a lot of the same tunes and sets are played each week, so after a short time you should be getting to know some of them.
Community Music Crew have also produced 3 CDs and a book of tunes in several formats (including tablature). These resources are available at the sessions, or can be purchased from the resources page.
This session is strictly for beginners (and the shy or rusty). If you can play a scale or two on your instrument then you should be able to join in. This is the perfect starting point if you played as a child and would like to return to Irish music. The pace is slow, and steady rhythm is emphasised.
The Dusty Banjos beag session takes place every Thursday, 7 - 9 pm, upstairs in Richardsons, Eyre Square, Galway, and costs €8 per night.
The session for improvers. We have a good variety of tunes and sets, and many members of this group play regularly in the open sessions. This is a stepping stone to playing out in other sessions. Moderate pace, and again steady playing is the emphasis.
