TRADITIONAL MUSIC CLASS FOR BEGINNERS - SUMMER BREAK
In response to popular demand, Community Music Crew started a new trad music class for beginners in February 2010.
The class is for adults who are taking up a melody instrument and wish to learn a few tunes, and to play with other people. It is not suitable for complete beginners, but if you can play one or two tunes, or even just a scale, this class should suit you. There is no need to read music, although sheet music will be available. You will need your own instrument! The pace is slow, and the atmosphere relaxed!
The class has taught a tune per week, building into sets of tunes commonly played in local sessions. Sets to date are:
Paddy in London/Blackthorn Stick/Paddy's Return and The Carraroe/Out on the Ocean/Boys of the Town (Jigs,) My Love is in America/Ms McLeod's (Reels), The Boys of Bluehill/Stack of Barley/Some say the devil is dead (hornpipes), Peg Ryan's/Newmarket/Britches full of stitches (polkas), and Planxty Irwin (waltz).
The class will return to its usual venue, upstairs in the Western Hotel, Prospect Hill, on Thursday September 9th.
